Hi all

I'm after a forged 4340 vw journal 74mm crank to build a budget baby stroker and some Berg 1.4 ratio rockers (or the bushed Sig Erson or CB forged).

Please Pm.

I just purchased a 74mm CB 4140 counterweighted crank from aircooled.net. Also got some 044 heads and scat 4340 I beam rods. Shipping was $250 thereabouts. Not many 74's around that are decent. I went for 1:25 ratio rockers as I am running an engle 110 cam.

What are the specs of your engine?

Plan was to build a tame little 1776 with the bits I have to get Betty moving a little quicker while I gather the bits for a 2276 thumper.

I have a 69mm counter weighted Pobjoy crank but a 74mm crank should fit with the A pistons and standard CB rods I have to make it a 1905cc and give it more torque.
I picked up a set of Henry Spikac mild ported and polished standard valve twin port heads with Berg HD single springs at the nationals with match ported manifolds so thinking a engle 110 or a Berg GB309 cam with 1.4 rockers (ends up like a Engle K8 but nicer ramps) and some twin 40 dells.

(Oh and it will be full flowed using a Berg blueprinted pump, pressure relief cover and the case tapped for the oil return :D )

Cheers

Sounds good - the 2276 sounds even better. Presume you will be guying pump from o/s? What is the go with the pressure relief valve on the pump cover? I was thinking of the same pump but running a straight full flow outlet rather than pressure relief.

It's a pressure relief valve like the ones in the case that is designed to keep the same oil pressure out of the pump and into the case at all times hot/cold/big revs.

I had one of the cheap aluminum covers doing the full flow on my first big revving 1916 with superflow heads and it blew a oil filter.

I swapped it and the pump out to the berg units and it never happened again.

Berg stuff is big money but it the best if you drive hard and will last through many motors if installed correctly and maintained.

(I'm doing the 1905 as I think the $$ a proper 2276 will cost will make it a long term parts gathering mission.. :( )

Cheers mate. Sounds like a berg is the way to go, with the relief cover. The $'s pumped into parts now is starting to add up. Kind of figure it will be a good investment for a whole lot of reasons, well at least that's what I tell myself.
