I picked up this 2 door Golf back in March, unplanned buy but it popped up on the vwwatercooled forum for a bargain and I couldn't resist. Met the guy at Goulburn (ACT car) and drove it home.

Looked super clean until I bled the brakes and they got spongy and the hard brake line running through the drivers floor was leaking, rust in the floor.
Also revealed more rust on the passenger side from a leaking heater core.
Straightened up the bumpers and some dents, still have a few more to go.

All rust removed and started cleaning it up before I trailered it down to the mechanics to get the hard brake line sorted and a once over for a blau slip.
It passed easy and I drove it home yesterday.

It's got a 1.8 lt 1992 GTI engine in it and it goes really nice. :)
Should get rego on it later today or tomorrow.

I'll have some fun in it for a while or until someone offers me the right coin for it and I'll move onto to another project I'm eyeing off.
Gotta get rid of the 72 bus as well once I've finished the rust on that.

Here's some pics. I need to put in the lowering springs and drop it down a few inches. Should look much better then. :)

has the engine been re-done at some point?

Just springs and shocks, no coilovers atm. When I got the Golf the owner had bought a lower kit and threw it in with the sale for a few extra $$.

The engine has been replaced with a 1992 1.8 at some point by a previous owner.
It's got some punch to it but never having driven a Golf before I can't compare it.

My wife is away for the weekend so by the time I fed and got the kids settled it was already 6:30. Replaced the suspension on the front left and forgot to take a measurement before and after...

I'll take a measurement before and after tomorrow on the other wheels.

Spent the morning switching over the suspension. Adjusted the rear down and it's sitting real nice.
Took the family out for a run to the servo for some fuel and down to the shops. The kids love it. :)
