I think I have a 69 mm crank tucked away but not sure if its forged.
How do I tell.?

Hold it up to the light. If you can't see the line running through it, it's not forged.

Does it have GSC Stamped on the side of one of the counterweights?

There are these ones:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-69mm-4140 ... 519a840884

Or Rod Penrose who stocks mostly AA parts:
http://rodpenroseracing.com.au/47-crankshafts

They are 4140 not the better quality 4340 but what are you thinking of building?

I get the feeling that all the forgings are made in one place and they drop down the supply chain from places like CB performance (who I hope triple check and Nitrate the best ones) then they go down to Empi etc..

Buy a 74mm and short rods and go the Aircooled.com route like Myles

Thanks Peter

Thought I'd see if I could find a good second hand crank before buying a new one.

Not sure weather to go for a 1904cc or an 1835cc (thick wall) though.

I'll update thread(s) etc, once I've sorted it.

Thanks guys
