Hey guys and gals.
Doing a 6 to 12v conversion on the 57 beetle.
Have most of the bits and pieces.
But need a 12v starter.
Other option is just run the 6v. Knowing it will burn out eventually.
But I’d rather do it right the first time.
So if you’ve got one or know anyone with one I’d be very appreciative.

use your 6v with a 12v solenoid
get simon from donvale auto elec to go through it 0408178211

if you use 12v starter you will need 12v flywheel and reset end float

Got the flywheel etc.
Think that’s the path we were going down.
But that is a good option re using the 6v starter with solenoid
And possibly an easier one too.

I have a 6 volt starter, with a 12v solenoid, which is/was working, and no longer needed, due to engine overhaul. In Geelong.

Thanks Rossco.
Hopefully I’ll find something closer.
But definitely keep it in mind.

Just a thought if you do end up fitting a 12v flywheel.
The gearbox housing will need grinding in certain spots to clear the flywheel.
At least thats what i had to do to my 6v gearbox. Correct me if i’m wrong!
Also I recently installed a new pressure plate and had to grind down the section just near the fork. So it would clear.
