Holy crap!
Is this the best weekend out or what?!?
We went up late friday night, and wandered into the centre of town on saturday... to find the entire town overrun with cool cars!! Everywhere!!! Anywhere there was a parking space or empty bit of median strip, front garden, there they were. Wow. Talk about time warp!
We spent the day sitting under a tree on the median strip on the main street with a well stocked esky and watched the cars drive on by. The car show comes to you!!! Forget walking around and getting sunburnt, that's for chumps (and hard working fellas like rookie
). To add to that, all the high street shops, take-aways, bottle-o's are just a few feet away. Yep, I reckon we had the best shady tree in the joint.
On sunday, all the action was happening at the pioneer park oval, so we headed on down there to check out the show 'n' shine sea of cars. Here, they also had trade stalls and bands playing all weekend...
It was brilliant.
Now apparently they are undergoing some changes with this event. Traditionally everything happened in the town centre where the cars cruise and they'd have a couple of stages set up at either end of the strip. Due to resident complaints and a couple of accidents last year, they've tried to move everything to the oval... Luckily, all the cruisers had pretty much ignored that, and on the saturday did laps on the main street. Goes to show what the punters really want from the event.
The cars, they come in all shapes and sizes:
