So the other day I'm sat in watching a film. It's about 10:30 - 11:00 at night. When I suddenly realise a growing rumbling sound. At first I think it's coming from the surround sound and is part of the film, but no. Then maybe it's the weather....thunder, heavy rain possibly, no not quite right. Then as the noise gets louder I realise it's coming from out the back of the house, so I run to the upstairs rear window to get a look. The rumble is strong. It's pretty dark out but I make out my neighbour getting out of a car which is clearly, by now, the thing making the noise. (he's a petrolhead, and an all round good bloke, so we get on well)
Come and check out my new purchase he says. So I dash outside to check out this....

It's a fairly bog standard VR6 mk3, but with an engine that's had 12k pounds spent on it!! And boy does it shift!
I laugh, because he's never really been into VWs (his daily is an old, but rapid, Volvo 850 T5R, and his fun car is an Ultima GT which he shares with his dad). He then proceeds to blame me for this purchase, after I briefly told him the week before about the time in der fatherland I was taken for a spin in a tuned R32 mk4.

If it can it's in pretty good company

No offence to your mate but if I had a dollar for everytime I've heard "yeah it should run XX time down the quarter"
Well I'd have a lot more money than I do now
Good way to actually truly work out what a car "should" be able to ruins to run it down the quarter get the MPH and work backwards
Even a shit driver will get close to the care potential top MPH
Theoretically my ute should run flat 11s I've flunked a 12.2 out of it but usually at best get low 13s
Drag racing takes a perfect run to ge low numbers like 10s from a street car

I know.
It sounds like the guy that built the motor has put it on the dyno, got the hp figure and gone ahh yeah, this should run 10's. And left it at that.
As you say....it takes a lot more than that to run a decent number on the track.
I know...I've watched another friend run his beetle many many times, tweaking the suspension and set up (never mind the engine) each time to try and get the numbers down.
