I had an accident in Taree once on my way to Byron when i was 17...
A nice guy (kinda looked like a biker) stopped and told me to follow him to his house and he would help me fix my car... (bent tie rod)
Wasnt his house he left not long after arriving
I ended up being locked in the house with his friends for a couple of days...
Scared shit the whole time...
forced to watch them feed kittens to there PIT bulls etc. While they smoked esc.
Every word they spoke was preceded and followed by a sware word. did know it was possible to speak like that...
eventually escape and got my car fixed in Port Macquarie
Moral of the story AVOID Landsdown

I love Yamba/Angourie but you're nearly there by then.
If you want to go somewhere nice and out of the way Sandon River is unreal (turn off just before Maclean) but you got 10ks of dirt road to get to the coast there.
Old Bar was nice the time I went. As was Crescent Head (turn off at Kempsey), Southwest Rocks, and Seal Rocks.
Lastly, I hear Corindi Beach is unbelievable but I haven't been there. Just nord of Coffs/Woolgoolga
