Just wondering if anyone knows about rust look paint?
I've seen a late squareback & an old splitty bus around at a few shows that have been painted (the whole car) to look like rust. I think the square was brushed but the bus was rollered?
Any info on what it is & where I can get it would be great
a couple of guys in the states were talking of getting metal shavings, and putting on the car, like a metal flake, but then letting it oxidise and clearing it?
nope, don't want a rusty car... though they do look pretty sweet.
I've been asked to reproduce it (by a customer who I hope to impress) on some of his work at his house.... " I want it painted, but it needs to look like it's old & rusted" as he shows me a picture of rusting steel.
He's given me an 'option b', but I want to try and get it done.

i am sure i saw an article on 'rust paint' in one of vw magazines recently, have a look, they painted a weiss late bug with it but it looked bad to my eye...
found some
the system made by Porters Paints seems to be regarded as best.
If anyone needs any kind of paint or paint related products, I can now recommend the guys at PaintWorld Merrylands & their other Paint People shop at Batt st. Penrith. They knew what I was talking about & had everything on the shelf too.
Went to both shops today, very helpfull & informative, was impressed with their customer relations, service & advice.
Spray glue it, then get some metal dust from a brake place and coat it. Spray some salt wasser on it. My mate did a fibreglass furphy tank plate for his house. It looks so real, cause it is.

just look out for a manky mk1 with the 'rusted metal shaving look' coming up with us from Canberra for the Nationals.
Well, well well,I knew some one would eventually get the idear!
Dont use porters paint, it is a acrylic base.It wont handle Expansion and and contraction of metal panels. It will start flaking off.
Its unfortunate you arent in melburg as architectural finishes are my
bag.I used to be the creative director of a company who did metal corrosive coatings on non conductive surfaces.
