Wanted - 15" 5 lug wheels / plus 4 lug to 5 adapters
Wanted - 15" 5 lug wheels / plus 4 lug to 5 adapters
Bit of a longshot, but i'm after a set of 15" older style wheels and a set of adapters to fit them to a later Beetle...if anyone's got any for sale could you hit me up with a price.
Thanks
Thanks
gotta recommend going against adapters here. lots of horror stories in the US regarding their use. you could swap the drums out? using a spacer between the snout and the bolt for the rear, and using US 67 wheel bearings up front?
Also, there's lots of nice options out there for a 4-lug bug, and it keeps it period....

Not sure what i'm going to do yet as i know a load of people back in the UK who have used adapters for years without hitch, plus we only use the car a couple of times a week. If it was some 200+HP performance car i'd probably not be considering it at all, but on a car like this i'm probably going to chance it if i'm honest.
I had a 67 bug back in 93 that had 5 lug "banded" wheels on the back, where they cut the wheel in half and and weld a wider strip in...the tyre width was 205 from memory. I'm guessing that over here in Aus that kind of thing would cause heart attacks?
I'd be interested in seeing some of the other 4 lug wheel options if anyone can either post some pics / links etc?
Thanks again
Neil

Adaptors are illegal in Qld.

Not sure where you would stand if you drove a Vic registered Bug to Qld and then had a prang.
No doubt the insurers would look for any possible reason not to pay.
Just had a poke around the Vicroads website, and you guys are screwed too.

(Unless by some miracle these adaptors were supplied by VW as original equipment)

My oval has welded out wheels on the back running 215's, and as much as I would like to change them out, they were the right price... I am on the hunt for some suitable wheels, and I have a couple that should almost be on their way home after a holiday on a w/s bogged porsche, and it has made a couple of 80mph trips along bits of eastlink..... (close to home but)nee wrote: I had a 67 bug back in 93 that had 5 lug "banded" wheels on the back, where they cut the wheel in half and and weld a wider strip in...the tyre width was 205 from memory. Why introduce a foreigner into your system??? It's just something else that can go wrong... Get some 4 lugs that you like, or change the drums over......
Again, many thanks for the replies!
Some of those 4 lug wheels look pretty good admittedly, but it's not enough to change my lust for some stock 5 lugs.
I realise we should have just bought a pre-67, but they were all out of our reach price-wise....well, for something in the condition we were looking for anyway. We looked for ages on the likes of Ebay / Trading Post and the ones we saw were either up in the $5000+ bracket or in places like QLD!
This one came up for $1800 and was very clean, so we couldn't say no!
I have had people saying about changing the drums over etc but i'm not all that tech with cars, and being pretty new to the country i don't have anyone to assist if things go wrong, hence why i'm looking for the easiest route to get the look i want.
