Get a top kit from Chucks convertibles in the US, as well as all the header bows and timber you'll needs and take the lot to a motor trimmer to fit if you don't want to have a go yourself. I think Chuck sells an install DVD if you do.
Plan on spending up to $5k if your getting someone else to do it.

not a stupid question at all, this it what forums are for, for genuine people to have the opportunity to ask & learn without feeling dumb.
now, not knowing if your bug is a factory convertible or a "chop top" vert (please dont take any offence to my description, I've personally owned/built/daily driven a couple of the chop tops when I was younger & loved them both)
anyway- a reputable upolsterer can make you a nice new top for a 'chop top', & if you have an old one for a pattern its extremely helpful, so it will fit nicely with your exisiting bars. so be sure to retain all the pieces no matter how tatty there are.
you used to able to get the normal vinyl or mercedes cloth (that really looked great).
try a few places & get quotes, I re-call going to an auto marine uplosterer for parts (clips etc) for mine that needed fixings. we are talking early 90's though.
if she's a real bug vert, I'm fairly certain that you can buy repro tops for factory cars, as stated when I was looking at Gerorges' vert he was supplying a repro/new top with it though his shop.

Heater channels on verts have inner reinforcments, and so does under the back seat, which if rusted out, will be very involved to get repaired

It so happens that I found a closed vehicle auction that had a bunch of imported KCB's in Australia. Why would it be so unreasonable to consider that one of those cars is up for sale somewhere?
Also, why would it be so unreasonable to consider the possibility that somebody privately shipped something over in the last 40-50 years? As unlikely as it may seem, somebody at one stage or another probably did?
Funnily enough, with all the searching I found an original RHD 1954 KCB on 1956 pan in UK. It was snatched up before i got a response on my enquiry... it is however possible to find "the right" car.
Also, this is a wanted add right, so assuming you are waiting for the right car, would indicate that you are waiting for the right car, here in Oz, as this is an Oz website. I did say in my last post that impoting one is not a bad thing, in fact, it would be the best option, as waiting for one here is just about a waste of time.
If you look at the websites from NZ, you may find a few there as well....
